Explore Emerging Technologies through Student Exchange in XR at MSU!
Virtual reality and augmented reality (XR) are a growing area for applications that work broadly across many domains. This exchange program is designed to allow the graduate students from both universities to gain meaningful experiences as they take classes, engage in labs, and experience what each university and location has to offer. Both programs are uniquely positioned in studying digital games, usability, and the impacts of technology on communications.
Program Overview:2025 Fall
(A) A small cohort (2~3) students from the MSU M&I MA program will go to Taipei, Taiwan to study at NCCU/IMICS for one semester. At the same time, a cohort of the same number of students from the NCCU/IMICS program will come to East Lansing to study in our MSU M&I MA program for one semester.
(B) Each IMICS’s student will take 9 credits of courses in one semester at MSU.
About M&I MA program, Michigan State University:
Michigan State University (MSU) is a highly respected university in the United States. It is particularly well-known for its communications, media studies, and digital games studies. The M&I MA program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in emerging media technologies, including XR applications. The faculty are actively involved in cutting-edge research and development in digital media and technology, with strong industry connections that provide students with opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Many Ph.D. graduates from our program have gone on to become faculty members at leading institutions worldwide, contributing to the field of media and information studies.

Requirements:
1. Open only students from the IMICS program in the College of Communication
2. Applicants must in order to be eligible:
79 on TOFEL ibt exam with no subscore under 17; or IELTS score of 6.5 with no subscore below 6.0 (or the equivalent.)
Be in good academic standing (GPA 3.0 or above would have preference- will carefully consider those slightly below 3.0).
Have an interest in XR studies (could be games, health applications, usability, policy)
Have approval of their advisor to join the program (letter of recommendation).
Application Process:
Eligibility: The program is open to students from the IMICS (International Master's Program in International Communication Studies) in the College of Communication.

Application Deadline: 5pm, Apr 21 (Monday), 2025.
The applications will be reviewed by the program committee. Accepted applicants will be notified of their acceptance via email individually, along with further instructions for filling out the MSU Application Form and preparing for the exchange.
In order to comply with U.S. government regulation, students from IMICS NCCU will be required to provide a guarantee that they have the financial resources to meet all expenses. Upon submission of a satisfactory completed form, MSU’ office for International Students and Scholars will provide the student with a DS 2019 form to apply for a J1 Exchange Visitor Visa. In limited cases, students may be provided with a Form I20 to apply for an F-1 Student Visa.
Neither MS nor NCCU will be responsible for the costs of rom, board, travel, or other personal expenses (including books)
