[Call for Papers] 2022 NCCU-SNU-UT Joint Symposium / Online

2022 NCCU-SNU-UT Joint Symposium / Online

Beyond Boundaries: Communication for diverse and multiple communities

Call for Papers

This year’s symposium will be held ONLINE and hosted by Seoul National University on October 29th, 2022 (Saturday). The hosting institution arranges for two different types of sessions—oral presentation session and poster session. Each presenter of oral presentation will be given 15 minutes to address his/her discovery and 5 minutes for Q&A.

With this year’s conference subject, Beyond Boundaries: Communication for diverse and multiple communities, we’d like to invite everyone to explore and critically talk about issues related to “boundary”: Desires and imaginaries about “other spaces” have often driven the historical development of communication and media technologies. In response to the many societal challenges our communities currently face, many of us are contemplating the possibilities of new forms of "other spaces" to facilitate conversations across “boundaries.” How are boundaries, variously defined in terms of physical distances, territorial borders, and disciplinary and political differences, produced and sustained? How do the existing “differences” in physical space shape the ones in virtual space? Could the new forms of communication spaces nurture diverse, accessible, and inclusive communities? The conference invites papers addressing the issues of “boundaries” in the broadest sense of the term and especially encourages those that think against and across the said boundaries.

All the doctoral and master students in the College of Communication are invited to submit research abstracts and make presentations at the symposium. Please submit a 250-word abstract in English to imics@nccu.edu.tw by 12:00 at noon, October 11th. Students are required to include a cover page with a title of the paper, the contact information of the students as well as your presentation type preference. (Refer to the following page for the template of cover page.) The abstract acceptance will be announced on October 14th.

The event will be conducted fully in English. Presenters are NOT required to submit a full-text paper but might be asked to turn in presentation slides by the hosting institution before the event. Should you have any queries, please feel free to contact Ms. Constance Yen (imics@nccu.edu.tw).

The symposium is an international platform jointly formed by the University of Tokyo (UT), Seoul National University (SNU), and National Chengchi University (NCCU) since 2017. It has been an annual meeting where our faculty members and graduate students share research interests and exchange ideas in the field of communication and media studies.
