On June 24, 2019, Dr. Lara Momesso gave a speech at NCCU Dayong Building on “How a newspaper article can change your life: bearing the fruit of my IMICS experience”. Back in November 2016, she also gave another speech on “Cross-Strait Marriage Migration” at NCCU.
Lara Momesso from Italy, a 2008 graduate of IMICS, has been studying Taiwanese immigration for a long time. She is currently a lecturer in Asia-Pacific Studies at the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom. She is also Deputy Director of the Taiwan Research Institute and Deputy Director of the UCLan Research Centre for Migration, Diaspora and Exile (MIDEX).
This time, Lara not only introduced her long-term research on marriage migration and the role of Taiwanese men in the marriage migration phenomenon which is unique to contemporary Taiwan, but also shared her personal experience with her Master study in Taiwan, her curiosity about the unknown, and how IMICS as well as NCCU paved the way for her research interests to become a young scholar with a lifelong career in Taiwan studies.
